What is an LMIA?
Usually in Canada, an employer who wants to hire a foreign worker requires an official document termed as a Labor Market Impact Assessment or LMIA. This document, also known as a confirmation letter, confirms that no worker in Canada has the necessary skill set to do the specific job.
How the process works
LMIA is applied by the employer, and once received; the foreign worker can apply for the work permit.
The worker applying for the work permit on the basis of the LMIA must have the following:
- A copy of LMIA
- The LMIA number
- A valid job letter from the same employer
- A contract
